The email MCP server for every inbox
Most email MCP servers wrap one Gmail account and run on your laptop. Emailgents is one hosted server for all of your mailboxes, with a structured index, honest coverage and a read-only tool set.

What an email MCP server is
The Model Context Protocol lets an AI client such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Codex call tools that someone else hosts. An email MCP server exposes a mailbox as tools: list accounts, search, read a message, follow a thread, fetch an attachment.
Most of the servers you will find on GitHub do this for one Gmail account, require you to create a Google Cloud project, and run as a local process on your machine. They work, and they stop at the edge of that one account.
Emailgents is the hosted version of that idea, built for more than one account and more than one provider. You connect each mailbox once in a browser, and every MCP client reads all of them through a single URL after one sign-in.
Indexed, so search is fast
Recent mail is kept in a structured, encrypted index. Cross-account search returns in milliseconds instead of waiting for the slowest IMAP server, and bodies are fetched on demand.
Honest about coverage
Every answer says whether it is complete, complete within the sync window or partial, which folders are pending, and how fresh each mailbox is. Zero results never silently means none anywhere.
Read-only by design
No send, move or delete tools exist. The only write toggles read and starred. Every call is logged for the mailbox owner.
Mailboxes it serves
Each provider page has the exact steps and the honest limits.
- GmailSign in with Google once. Every agent you run gets read-only, logged access to that inbox, next to your work Gmail, your iCloud and anything else you connect.sign in
- Outlook and Microsoft 365Personal Outlook.com, Hotmail and Live addresses as well as Microsoft 365 work accounts, all read through the same connection as your other inboxes.sign in
- iCloud MailApple has no mail API and no third-party sign-in, so Claude, ChatGPT and most tools simply skip iCloud. Emailgents speaks IMAP to Apple directly and needs one app-specific password.app password
- Yahoo MailNo assistant ships a Yahoo connector. Emailgents connects Yahoo over IMAP with a single app password and puts it next to your other inboxes.app password
- FastmailFastmail runs its own MCP server for Fastmail alone. Emailgents puts Fastmail next to every other inbox you own, behind one connection and one access log.app password
- AOL MailAOL inboxes are still everywhere and supported almost nowhere. Emailgents connects AOL over IMAP with one app password.app password
- Zoho MailZoho hosts a lot of small-business mail on custom domains. Emailgents connects it over IMAP, in any Zoho region.app password
- GMX and WEB.DEGermany's most used free mail providers, supported by none of the assistants. Emailgents connects both over IMAP.app password
- Any IMAP serverCompany mail on your own server, a mailbox from your web host, mailbox.org or Posteo: if it speaks IMAP over TLS, it connects.app password
Clients it works with
Any client that supports remote MCP servers over streamable HTTP.
Hosted vs local email MCP servers
- Hosted: works from every device and every client after one sign-in; nothing to install or keep running.
- Local: runs only where you start it, one account per instance, and you manage OAuth credentials yourself.
- Hosted servers must earn trust: Emailgents does it with a read-only tool set, encryption, an access log and instant revocation.
Email MCP server questions
Do I need a Google Cloud project or API keys?
No. Gmail and Outlook connect with their sign-in buttons through Emailgents' verified apps; other providers use an app password. Agents authenticate with OAuth to Emailgents.
Which MCP clients are supported?
Claude (web, desktop, mobile), Claude Code, ChatGPT with developer mode, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, Windsurf, VS Code and any client that supports remote servers over streamable HTTP.
Can it send email?
No, deliberately. See the security page for why.
Is there a self-hosted version?
Not today. Emailgents is a hosted service; the REST API and the MCP server are documented so you can build on them.
