Connect Outlook to your AI agents
Personal Outlook.com, Hotmail and Live addresses as well as Microsoft 365 work accounts, all read through the same connection as your other inboxes.
- @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com and @msn.com, including country variants
- Microsoft 365 work and school mailboxes
- Shared and secondary accounts, each connected separately
Microsoft's own assistants live inside Microsoft 365, and the assistant connectors from Anthropic and OpenAI focus on organizational tenants. A personal Hotmail address, or a mix of a work tenant and a private Outlook.com inbox, rarely fits in one place.
Emailgents connects each Microsoft account through Microsoft's sign-in, keeps a structured index of recent mail via Microsoft Graph, and exposes it to every agent next to your Gmail, iCloud and IMAP mailboxes.
How to connect Outlook
Nothing is stored until the connection test passes.
- 01Create an Emailgents accountSign up at emailgents.com. Any sign-in method works; the mailbox connection is a separate step.
- 02Add OutlookOpen Mailboxes, choose Outlook / Microsoft 365 and click Connect with Microsoft. Sign in with the account you want to add and approve mailbox access.
- 03Let the index buildThe last 90 days are indexed right away and refreshed every few minutes. Add further Microsoft accounts the same way.
- 04Add the connector to your agentPaste https://emailgents.com/mcp into your agent and sign in once. The Outlook mailbox appears in list_accounts with its folders.
https://emailgents.com/mcpWhat agents get
- Folders map one to one: Inbox, Sent Items, Archive, Junk, Deleted Items and every custom folder.
- Changes arrive through Microsoft Graph delta queries, so new mail reaches the index within minutes without rescanning the mailbox.
- Flags and read state stay in sync both ways; set_flags updates the message in Outlook, not just the index.
- Attachments download up to 4 MB inline for agents and 25 MB through the authenticated URL.
Limits and prerequisites
- Microsoft 365 tenants can require admin consent for third-party apps. If sign-in stops at a consent screen, your administrator needs to approve Emailgents once.
- The requested permission is Mail.ReadWrite because the single write tool toggles read and flagged state. Emailgents never sends, moves or deletes mail.
- On-premises Exchange without Microsoft Graph is not reachable through this route. If IMAP is enabled on that server, use the generic IMAP connection instead.
Use it from your agent
Once Outlook is connected, add Emailgents to the agent you use.
- ClaudeClaude's built-in Gmail connector handles one Google account. Add Emailgents once and Claude reads all of your mailboxes, iCloud and IMAP included.2 min
- Claude CodeOne command in the terminal. Claude Code can then pull the bug report from your work mail, the invoice from iCloud and the Stripe receipt from Gmail without leaving the session.1 min
- ChatGPTChatGPT's built-in apps cover Gmail and Outlook. With Emailgents as a connector it also reads iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail and your second Gmail, through one sign-in.3 min
- CursorBug reports, customer threads and vendor receipts live in email. Add one entry to mcp.json and Cursor's agent can read them without you copying and pasting.2 min
- CodexCodex CLI, the IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share one MCP configuration. Add Emailgents once and all of them can read your mail.2 min
- Gemini CLIGemini in Gmail reads one Google account. Gemini CLI with Emailgents reads every inbox you own, from the terminal.2 min
Outlook questions
Does this work with a personal Hotmail or Outlook.com address?
Yes. Personal Microsoft accounts and Microsoft 365 work accounts both connect with the same Connect with Microsoft button and appear as separate mailboxes.
Can I connect a work tenant and a private inbox at the same time?
Yes. Connect them one after the other. Agents see both and can filter by account; API keys can be scoped to only one of them if you want to keep a script away from the other.
Is it safe to give an AI agent access to my Outlook mail?
Emailgents only exposes read tools (search, open, thread, attachment) plus one flag tool for read/unread and starred. There is no send, reply, forward, move or delete, so a prompt hidden in an email cannot make your agent act on your behalf. Credentials are encrypted at rest, every agent call is written to your Activity page, and you can revoke a mailbox or a key in one click.
How do I revoke access?
Remove the mailbox in Emailgents or revoke Emailgents under App permissions in your Microsoft account. Either one ends access at once; the index for that mailbox is deleted.
What exactly does Emailgents store from Outlook?
A structured index of recent mail: sender, recipients, subject, date, folder, flags, thread references, attachment names and a short cleaned snippet. The default window is 90 days per mailbox and you can change it. Full bodies are fetched from Outlook on demand and only cached, encrypted, if you turn body caching on for that mailbox.
Which agents can read my Outlook inbox through Emailgents?
Any MCP client: Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, Windsurf, VS Code and any other MCP client, or your own scripts over REST. You add one URL, https://emailgents.com/mcp, sign in once, and every mailbox you have connected appears to that agent.
