Connect Gmail to your AI agents
Sign in with Google once. Every agent you run gets read-only, logged access to that inbox, next to your work Gmail, your iCloud and anything else you connect.
- @gmail.com and @googlemail.com
- Google Workspace addresses on your own domain
- Second, third and shared Gmail accounts, each connected separately
Claude's built-in Gmail connector binds one Google account at a time, and ChatGPT's Gmail app is a separate connection from its Outlook app. Each agent asks you to authorize again, and none of them can see your iCloud or IMAP mail at all.
Emailgents turns that around. You connect each Gmail account once, we keep a structured index of recent mail, and every agent reads all of your mailboxes through a single MCP URL or REST key. Ask one question and get answers across accounts; filter by account when you want just one.
How to connect Gmail
Nothing is stored until the connection test passes.
- 01Create an Emailgents accountSign up at emailgents.com with Google or an email address. Signing in with Google does not connect your mailbox yet; that is a separate, explicit step.
- 02Add GmailOpen Mailboxes, choose Gmail / Google Workspace and click Connect with Google. Approve the Gmail permissions for the account you want to add.
- 03Let the index buildEmailgents starts indexing the last 90 days straight away and keeps it fresh every few minutes. Repeat step two for every additional Gmail account.
- 04Add the connector to your agentPaste https://emailgents.com/mcp into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client and sign in once. Your Gmail accounts show up in list_accounts.
https://emailgents.com/mcpWhat agents get
- Gmail labels appear as folders, so agents can search Inbox, Sent, Starred, Important or any custom label.
- Threads follow Gmail's own conversation grouping, and get_thread returns the whole exchange oldest first.
- Attachments are available as text or base64 up to 4 MB inline, and up to 25 MB through the authenticated download URL.
- Several Gmail accounts live side by side; search_messages covers all of them unless you pass account_ids.
Limits and prerequisites
- Google Workspace administrators can block third-party apps. If Connect with Google is not allowed in your organization, use the app-password route below.
- Google's permission set includes gmail.modify because the single write tool toggles read and starred flags. Emailgents never uses it to send, move or delete.
- The app-password route needs 2-Step Verification on the Google account; Google only issues app passwords once that is on.
Use it from your agent
Once Gmail is connected, add Emailgents to the agent you use.
- ClaudeClaude's built-in Gmail connector handles one Google account. Add Emailgents once and Claude reads all of your mailboxes, iCloud and IMAP included.2 min
- Claude CodeOne command in the terminal. Claude Code can then pull the bug report from your work mail, the invoice from iCloud and the Stripe receipt from Gmail without leaving the session.1 min
- ChatGPTChatGPT's built-in apps cover Gmail and Outlook. With Emailgents as a connector it also reads iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail and your second Gmail, through one sign-in.3 min
- CursorBug reports, customer threads and vendor receipts live in email. Add one entry to mcp.json and Cursor's agent can read them without you copying and pasting.2 min
- CodexCodex CLI, the IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share one MCP configuration. Add Emailgents once and all of them can read your mail.2 min
- Gemini CLIGemini in Gmail reads one Google account. Gemini CLI with Emailgents reads every inbox you own, from the terminal.2 min
Gmail questions
Can I connect multiple Gmail accounts?
Yes. Connect each account in Mailboxes and they all appear behind the same MCP connection. Agents search across them by default and can narrow to one with account_ids. This is the usual reason people switch from the native Claude or ChatGPT connector, which handles one Google account at a time.
What if Google sign-in is not available for my workspace?
Choose Gmail (app password) instead. Turn on 2-Step Verification, create an app password at myaccount.google.com/apppasswords, and paste it in. Emailgents then speaks IMAP to imap.gmail.com on port 993 and exposes your labels as folders.
Is it safe to give an AI agent access to my Gmail mail?
Emailgents only exposes read tools (search, open, thread, attachment) plus one flag tool for read/unread and starred. There is no send, reply, forward, move or delete, so a prompt hidden in an email cannot make your agent act on your behalf. Credentials are encrypted at rest, every agent call is written to your Activity page, and you can revoke a mailbox or a key in one click.
How do I revoke access?
Remove the mailbox in Emailgents, which deletes its index and credentials, or remove Emailgents under Third-party apps in your Google account. Either one ends access immediately.
What exactly does Emailgents store from Gmail?
A structured index of recent mail: sender, recipients, subject, date, folder, flags, thread references, attachment names and a short cleaned snippet. The default window is 90 days per mailbox and you can change it. Full bodies are fetched from Gmail on demand and only cached, encrypted, if you turn body caching on for that mailbox.
Which agents can read my Gmail inbox through Emailgents?
Any MCP client: Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, Windsurf, VS Code and any other MCP client, or your own scripts over REST. You add one URL, https://emailgents.com/mcp, sign in once, and every mailbox you have connected appears to that agent.
