Emailgents vs EmailEngine for agent email access

Self-hosted IMAP gateway with a REST API.

EmailEngine is a well-regarded self-hosted service that turns IMAP, Gmail API and Microsoft Graph mailboxes into a REST API with webhooks. You run it on your own infrastructure under a yearly license.

It is designed for developers who want full control and full read-write access. There is no built-in MCP server, so agents need an adapter, and you own hosting, updates and security.

Emailgents is the hosted, agent-first counterpart: nothing to run, read-only tools, an MCP endpoint and REST, and an access log for the mailbox owner.
