There is no iCloud Mail API
Developers search for an iCloud Mail API every day and find the same answer: Apple does not provide one. That is the reason iCloud is missing from every assistant's connector list, and it does not have to stop your agents.
What Apple actually offers
- IMAP and SMTP over TLS at imap.mail.me.com and smtp.mail.me.com.
- App-specific passwords, created at account.apple.com, which require two-factor authentication and can be revoked individually.
- No REST API, no OAuth, no webhooks and no push for third parties.
Why connectors skip it
Assistant connectors are built on OAuth and provider APIs. IMAP needs a real mail engine: connection pooling, UID-based incremental sync, MIME parsing, folder mapping and careful handling of Apple's rate limits. That is more than a connector team wants to maintain for one provider, so iCloud is left out.
How Emailgents does it
Emailgents was built iCloud-first. Its IMAP engine indexes iCloud folders incrementally, cleans snippets, assembles threads and exposes the mailbox to any agent through the same MCP server as Gmail and Outlook. The app-specific password is encrypted at rest and only ever used to talk to Apple.
- 01At account.apple.com, open Sign-In and Security, App-Specific Passwords, and create one named Emailgents.
- 02In Emailgents, add iCloud Mail with your address and that password.
- 03Add https://emailgents.com/mcp to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client.
Safety notes
- An app-specific password only works for Mail protocols; it does not grant access to iCloud Drive, Photos or your Apple account.
- Revoke it at account.apple.com at any time; access ends immediately.
- Emailgents' tools cannot send, move or delete, so a malicious email cannot make an agent act on your iCloud account.
