Emailgents vs open-source Gmail MCP servers
Run it yourself, one Gmail account, full access.
Several open-source projects wrap the Gmail API as a local MCP server. You create a Google Cloud project, configure an OAuth client, run the server with Node or Python and point Claude Desktop or Cursor at it.
They are free and transparent, and good for developers who like to own the stack. They are also Gmail-only, one account per instance, require you to manage Google OAuth credentials, usually include send and delete tools, and run only where you start them.
Emailgents removes the setup, adds every other provider including iCloud, works from any device because it is hosted, and limits agents to reading.
